Irene Sijnesael

Irene Sijnesael paints with a profound love of colour, light and the imaginative freedom of flowers. Her works are both expressive and atmospheric: sometimes romantic and recognisable, sometimes looser and more abstract, but always created from emotion and the joy of painting. In her paintings, flowers do not appear as quiet, precise observations, but as living forms within a world of colour. Petals, stems and backgrounds flow into one another, together forming compositions reminiscent of a garden filled with light, movement and summer energy. The recognisable image remains present, while colour and brushwork leave room for imagination. Irene builds her paintings layer by layer, allowing herself to be guided by the feeling of the moment. Light, space, form and colour together determine how each work develops. She uses different techniques and materials, including the palette knife and paint spray, adding depth, spontaneity and strength to her canvases. Her paintings invite the viewer to wander through a personal dream garden. At times, this garden is soft and romantic, with delicate colours and an almost nostalgic atmosphere. At other times, it is exuberant, powerful and full of contrast.
